A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. This page lists the cookies jivanamfoundation.org uses and what each one is for.
1. Strictly necessary cookies
These keep the site working and secure. They cannot be switched off from within the site, because the pages that use them - our forms - will not function without them.
- Anti-forgery token - set when a page contains a form (Contact, Volunteer, Donate). It proves the form was submitted from our own page and not by an attacker. Expires when you close the browser.
- Session cookie - used to hold the image-captcha challenge while you type the code. Expires within minutes.
- JivanamAdminAuth - set only for signed-in staff using the admin panel at /admin. Never set for ordinary visitors. Expires after 8 hours of inactivity.
2. Analytics cookies
Where we have switched analytics on, these help us understand which pages people read, which appeals work, and where visitors leave. The data is aggregated - it tells us how many people read a case, not who they are.
- Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*) - distinguishes one visitor from another and measures sessions. Typically lasts up to 24 months.
- Google Tag Manager - a container that loads the tags above; it does not itself profile you.
3. Marketing cookies
- Meta Pixel (_fbp) - where enabled, measures whether a donation appeal shown on Facebook or Instagram led to a visit, and lets us avoid showing the same appeal to people who have already donated. Typically lasts up to 3 months.
4. Third-party embeds
Our Video Gallery embeds YouTube players. When you play a video, YouTube may set its own cookies under its own policy. We use the privacy-enhanced player where available, so nothing is set until you press play.
5. How to control cookies
Every major browser lets you see the cookies a site has set, delete them, block third-party cookies, or refuse cookies altogether - usually under Settings, then Privacy. You can also browse in a private or incognito window, which clears everything when you close it. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop our Contact, Volunteer and Donate forms from submitting.
6. Do Not Track
We do not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals, because there is no agreed standard for what a site should do when it receives one.
7. Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a tool that sets cookies, we will update this page. Please check it from time to time.
